The king of prominences has flown away from the Sun

Solar prominence on November 19-20, 2025

The formation and ejection of a very large solar prominence, significantly larger than usual, was recorded overnight today, November 20, at the north pole of the Sun. The plasma formation, when it broke away from the Sun, exceeded a million kilometers in size, or 80 times the diameter of the Earth.

It's impossible to say much about the processes that caused this event, except that its source is located on the far side of the Sun and hidden from view. Three days ago, a large plasma cloud was ejected from approximately the same region of the Sun where the prominence's right "leg" rested. This cloud is notable because it is highly likely to impact the 3I/ATLAS object located 230 million kilometers from the Sun tomorrow.

It is possible that both events (the earlier ejection and today's separation of the giant prominence) have a common source on the Sun and are possibly connected with the same center 4274, which last week, while still in the Earth's visible zone, produced two of the largest flares of the year, X5.1 and X4.0, and is now located just on the invisible solar side.
