Today and tomorrow there will be increased monitoring for magnetic storms and geomagnetic disturbances
The probability of geomagnetic events on May 7 and 8 will increase significantly due to an expected increase in solar wind speed near the Earth. On each of the two days, there is an approximately 1/3 chance of a magnetic storm (red level) and a 1/3 chance of weaker geomagnetic disturbances (yellow level). The magnetic field will remain in the green zone with a 1/3 chance. The overall intensity of the event is currently estimated as moderate to moderate. The next, more intense, period of disturbances is expected from May 15 to 18.
Overall solar activity is currently low. By the end of the week, an increase in solar flares is possible due to the emergence of large sunspot groups from the far side of the Sun on the Earth-facing side.
