Let's try to capture the state of space weather at the beginning of the week, and then see how the week ends.
On Saturday, an unexpectedly strong magnetic storm of close to G2 level occurred. The event, although noticeable, is difficult to localize due to its causes. Between the 4th and 6th, space coronagraphs recorded the escape of several small and medium-sized plasma clouds from the Sun, in all cases without any obvious corresponding solar flares on the surface. Some of these ejections were even included in the model, for example, this one. Judging by the solar wind parameters measured on Saturday, one of these clouds eventually reached Earth—at least, the wind speed and density profiles clearly indicate an ejection.
The event, however, turned out to be as short-lived as it was unexpected. By Sunday, geomagnetic indices had completely stabilized, just as suddenly as they had earlier disturbed their equilibrium.
Currently, both flare and geomagnetic activity are near zero. Flare indices even crossed zero over the weekend, but didn't stay there for long. Currently, they're at approximately 2 out of 10. There are no systemic reasons why this could change over the next 2-3 days, but over a 4-7 day horizon, anything is possible, so we'll see what happens in the second half of the week.
