The ninth full moon of the year arrives today, overnight from August 27 to 28. This calendar anomaly—nine full moons in eight months—occurred because of the "Blue Moon" on May 31, which managed to squeeze into the same calendar month as an earlier full moon; May saw two full moons, on the 1st and the 31st.
In Russia, the exact moment of the full moon falls in the morning rather than the night—specifically at 3:18 UTC. This timing roughly coincides with the peak of the lunar eclipse (this is not a coincidence but a natural pattern; if you try drawing the Sun, Earth, and Moon in a straight line on a sheet of paper, you will see why). However, even though the mathematical moment of the full moon technically falls tomorrow, the Moon will actually appear most fully illuminated tonight.
