Solar activity, which hit a near-zero state last week, is showing a faint attempt to climb back up from the bottom. Sunspots have begun to reappear on the star, and with them, the average temperature of the solar corona has started to rise. Consequently, the background level of X-ray radiation has begun to trend upward, approaching the C-class threshold.

This almost certainly signals a recovery in average flare activity over the next couple of days—a trend already becoming apparent. As this report was being written, news arrived of a C1.2-class flare. Another flare, rated at C1.1, was recorded around 10:00 AM Moscow time. That makes two such events in a single day—notable, given that there were only two flares in total throughout all of last week. In absolute terms, activity remains very low, but at least a clear trend has emerged.

The geomagnetic field remains in the "green" zone, though it has not dropped to zero. The Kp-index is hovering mostly around 3 (a level of 4 is already considered "disturbed"). It is not entirely clear what is driving these fluctuations, as the solar wind is currently weak; it is possible that the magnetic field has yet to fully settle down following the G2-class storm that occurred between Saturday night and Sunday. Forecasts remain in the green.

There is little else to add at this stage. The next couple of days will reveal how sustainable this increase in flare activity truly is.
