17 strong solar flares occurred in one day
The Sun is experiencing an exceptionally intense rate of flare formation. Over the past 24 hours (Moscow time), 17 strong flares—M-level and higher—were recorded. Over the past decade, since January 1, 2015, only one day has been found with a greater number of events: December 29, 2024. The second-highest number of events in the decade is now February 1, 2026, which just ended. However, the continuous energy consumption of M-level flares is apparently the only thing currently preventing flares of the highest magnitude. Once the Sun transitions from spam mode to accumulation mode, X-level explosions will begin. However, they will begin even without this if the energy flows currently coming from deep within the Sun exceed the capacity to "utilize" them in M-level events.
The potential for impact on Earth is expected to "switch on" in approximately 24 hours.
