Comet C/2026 A1 continues to move toward its fate, which, unfortunately, currently appears to be extremely bleak. In just 18 days, on April 4 at approximately 5:00 PM Moscow time, the celestial body will make a close approach to, or even impact, the Sun.

A more or less finalized calculation model for the solar flare and mass ejection that occurred yesterday has been developed, showing a fairly plausible result. The mass ejection is expected to arrive at the planet on Thursday, March 19, 2026, between 4 and 6 a.m.

An unexpectedly powerful M2.8 solar flare was recorded by multiple tracking devices. The peak of the event was observed at 3:15 PM Moscow time. The explosion occurred near the center of the solar disk and was accompanied by an obvious ejection of plasma toward Earth.
16.03.2026
The final significant event in the eventful life of comet 3I/ATLAS—its closest approach to the solar system's largest planet, Jupiter—will occur today at 3:20 PM Moscow time.

After a couple of days of mild turbulence over the weekend, calm and tranquility returned. The Sun's energy levels were still low, and they didn't last long. The star managed to produce two unconvincing flares of M1.2 and M1.0 classes, as well as a significant number—at least 30—of weak C-class flares.
14.03.2026
A planetary magnetic storm has been registered since approximately midnight Moscow time. The event is associated with a sharp increase in solar wind speed near Earth, which, in turn, is caused by a coronal hole on the Sun.
13.03.2026
Information has been received about a recently recorded M-class solar flare. The maximum radiation was reached at 12:55 Moscow time. The flare lasted approximately 20 minutes.

The forecast predicts an increase in the speed of the electromagnetic wind flow approaching Earth within 24 hours. Geomagnetic indices should also begin to rise following this. The source of the expected disturbances is clearly visible on the Sun. This coronal hole is quite close in size and not quite solid in shape.

The average monthly sunspot number, which has been measured consistently since 1749 and is a leading indicator of solar activity, fell to 78.2 in the first two months of 2026. This is the lowest figure since August 2022, when a value of 74.6 was recorded.

Comet C/2026 A1 (MAPS), likely a fragment of the Great Comet of 1106, now has no chance of escaping its previously predicted fate. Exactly 30 days from now, on April 4, 2026, the celestial body will impact the Sun.
